My whole life I've always been surrounded by animals, (see the photo gallery to see just how much of it!)
As I grew older my fascination was combined into many work experience placements in zoos, research labs, riding stables and horse racing organisations, and once 18 into full time jobs as a veterinary nurse in both small animal practices and equine practices.
After not securing a place at vet school after my A' levels I decided to follow the other thing I love, horse racing, by taking the fantastic degree in Equine Science and Thoroughbred Management at Oxford Brookes and Abingdon and Witney College.
However having spent a recent 6 months at the Liphook Equine Hospital during the third (industrial placement) year of the course, my interest in veterinary science was rekindled and after some confidence building encouragement from the vets at Liphook I decided to apply again using my degree to get in. Having secured a 2:1 in my first degree, I am now able to continue on my original career path and become a vet.
Why Do I Need ADOPTING?
Whilst top up fees have made all university courses £3000 per year Some vet schools are forced to charge £17,000 as the government only funds 75 places per year and vet schools can take about 100 students. £17,000 is the total amount required per year to train a veterinary surgeon as the course requires a great deal of specialization.
So despite veterinary science being a worthwhile career if a very demanding one finding £85,000 makes it all the more difficult. BUT since March when I received the offer from the University of Liverpool (to see proof of my offer click here ) I have made enough for one year by using my savings, help from parents and one major donation from Foreign Royalty! as well as your help from the website of course!, but have still got another 4 years left to find!!! If I am able to secure funding and graduate as a vet, I would like to work in mixed practice possibly specialising in either race horses or rescue work.
How YOU can Help!
It may seem a lot to expect others to help fund my second degree, and I realise it is somewhat unusual but I want to be able to do this so much that a website seemed a sensible option... the more people who donate a £1 the closer I will be to realising my ambition.
So by donating here on adoptavet.co.uk you will receive regular email newsletters, and can visit the website for further updates on my progress and how your money has helped me continue on the course and if my total amount raised reaches more than the £85,000 required, I will donate any excess funds to worthy animal charities.
